Timothy S. (“Tim”) Martin joins the firm as partner in New York

NEW YORK, NY, January 6, 2022 – Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP announced today that Timothy S. (“Tim”) Martin has joined the firm as partner. Tim most recently served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President at MacAndrews & Forbes Incorporated (MacAndrews), where he worked as an in-house litigator for more than twelve years. Tim, who will be based in the firm’s New York office, is an accomplished litigator, counselor, and problem solver with a long track record of success in prosecuting and defending complex, bet-the-company arbitrations and litigations.

While at MacAndrews, Tim was responsible for a uniquely broad mix of litigation, business, and regulatory matters in terms of both industry and subject matter. More specifically, Tim worked on legal matters at the holding and portfolio company levels involving both public and private companies operating in highly regulated industries, including beauty and personal care, clinical and commercial stage pharmaceutical, consumer financial services, creative services and distribution, food, gaming, and military vehicles/defense. His extensive experience includes commercial contract disputes, securities and business tort claims, class action and derivative lawsuits, indemnification and subrogation, insurance, intellectual property, labor and employment, M&A, real estate, and trusts and estates matters, among others.

“Tim’s experience as a former general counsel at MacAndrews puts him in the unique position of being able to understand clients’ needs as well as their legal and business objectives in order to provide practical, commercially-attuned advice,” said Roberta (“Robbie”) Kaplan, founding partner, Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP. “We are so excited to have Tim, who I’ve known for over twenty years, join us as our partner, not only because he is a superb lawyer with excellent judgment, but also because he is a first-class colleague, friend, and human being. Adding Tim is an important part of our strategy to continue to expand our commercial litigation practice, which has already obtained major victories for our clients, to a broader variety of clients and matters.”

Tim commented: “I’ve long known and deeply admired Kaplan Hecker & Fink’s partners and have been extremely impressed by both the high-stakes, historic matters they’ve taken on and the results they’ve achieved for their clients. I’m eager to join the team as we advise and litigate on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in an increasingly complex, fast-paced landscape.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased that Tim will be joining Kaplan Hecker & Fink,” said partner Sean Hecker. “Tim brings a broad base of experience to our firm, and we have no doubt his skills will substantially strengthen and deepen our already powerful commercial litigation practice.”

Tim began his legal career at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he represented individual and corporate clients in a broad range of complex civil and criminal litigation matters, as well as in internal investigations and regulatory matters. Tim earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. He earned his A.B., with Honors, from Dartmouth College.
