On September 21, Kaplan Hecker & Fink attorneys filed an amicus brief at the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in support of the State of New York’s concealed-carry law in the case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc., v. Bruen (No. 20-843). This case involves a Second Amendment challenge to New York’s licensing scheme, which requires individuals seeking an unrestricted license for concealed carry of a gun outside the home to show “proper cause.” KHF’s brief on behalf of Giffords Law Center argues that New York’s law finds support in the history and tradition of self-defense as well as the broader structure of the Constitution.

Kaplan Hecker & Fink lawyers Sean Hecker, Joshua Matz, and Yotam Barkai contributed to the brief with assistance from former Summer Associates Avisha Sabaghian and Hassaan Shahawy. The brief can be read in full here.
