NEW YORK, NY, February 16, 2022 – Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP (“KHF”) is pleased to announce that it has promoted Matthew (“Matt”) Craig to the position of Counsel as of February 15, 2022.
Matt joined Kaplan Hecker as an associate in 2018. Since he has been at the Firm, Matt has litigated cases concerning intellectual property, privacy and technology, helping to obtain a preliminary injunction barring the implementation of a New York City law requiring home-sharing platforms like Airbnb to share user data. He argued a successful Second Circuit appeal relating to foreign discovery subpoenas. Matt also was part of the KHF team successfully defending Brown University in two lawsuits challenging changes to its varsity athletics program. Matthew was the senior associate on the Firm’s independent investigation into gender disparities at NCAA championships. That investigation has already led to significant changes in the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball championships, including the use of the “March Madness” logo on the women’s final four this year in Minneapolis. Matt also represents the Federal Defenders of New York in litigation over the right to counsel at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Matthew graduated magna cum laude from the New York University School of Law, where he was both a Root-Tilden-Kern Scholar and an Institute for International Law and Justice Scholar. He served as a law clerk for the Hon. Gerard E. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and for the Hon. Allyne R. Ross, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
