The Advocate recently featured Roberta (“Robbie”) Kaplan in an article discussing Kaplan Hecker & Fink’s recent trial victory in E. Jean Carroll v. Donald Trump for battery and defamation, which resulted in a $5 million jury verdict for Carroll.
In the article, GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis predicts that the win is likely to “ become a turning point in history for all survivors of sexual abuse and torment.”
The article recognizes that Robbie has been “a longtime champion of LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, most notably as the attorney who brought down the main part of the Defense of Marriage Act.” It discusses Robbie’s decision to start Kaplan Hecker & Fink in 2017, and one of the firm’s early trial victories against the leaders of the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. That case resulted in a multimillion dollar trial verdict for a group of brave plaintiffs who were injured in the violence that took place there on August 11-12, 2017.
