Joseph Posimato

Joseph Posimato is a senior associate at Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP.

Joseph joins the firm from a DC-based political law boutique, where his practice focused on advancing pro-democracy issues in courts across the nation. He litigated voting rights and redistricting cases at all levels of the federal and state courts, including before the U.S. Supreme Court, and has served on several trial teams. He also was on the team that successfully litigated Allen v. Milligan, a case decided by the Supreme Court in 2023 that reaffirmed the constitutionality of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Joseph previously worked as an associate at a leading multinational law firm, representing clients in federal district and appellate courts on issues ranging from antitrust to the First Amendment.

Following law school, Joseph completed clerkships with the Hon. Christopher F. Droney of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Hon. Catherine C. Blake of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Joseph received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was vice president of the Board of Student Advisers and worked as a research and teaching assistant. Since 2018, Joseph has written problems for Harvard Law School’s Ames Moot Court Competition, a prestigious upper-level appellate advocacy competition that regularly fields its judges from the federal bench and the United States Supreme Court. He received his B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Fordham University.
