Kaplan Hecker & Fink attorneys Roberta Kaplan, John Quinn, and Matthew Craig were named “Litigators of the Week” by The American Lawyer for securing a dismissal in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in X Corp v. Center for Countering Digital Hate Inc., et al.

This week, Senior U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer granted a motion brought under California’s anti-SLAPP statute by the KHF team on behalf of the CCDH finding the lawsuit was squarely aimed at the center’s speech. “X Corp. has brought this case in order to punish CCDH for CCDH publications that criticized X Corp.—and perhaps in order to dissuade others who might wish to engage in such criticism,” Breyer wrote.

The lawsuit alleged that CCDH’s research into the surge in online hate, misinformation and extremism cost X ‘tens of millions of dollars’ in lost revenues after CCDH reported on hate speech and misinformation on the platform.

The KHF team included Roberta Kaplan, John Quinn, Matthew Craig, Amit Jain, and law clerk Avisha Sabaghian.

The American Lawyer interviewed Robbie, John, and Matt about the case, which can be read here.
